“To lead in manufacturing and create high-value jobs in the U.S., we must invest in technology and in people,” Jeffrey Immelt, GE, June 29, 2009
Manufacturing in the Great Lakes Region is facing many challenges. Where there are challenges, there is also opportunity. We have the right stuff to work together to seize opportunity and shape our future.
Right here, right now…
We have people investing in and starting new businesses
We have a talented workforce and the most potent collection of universities in the world
We have more patents than most of the rest of North America, and
We have the finest logistics systems in the world.
The Great Lakes Manufacturing Council is about staying and working together. We’ve achieved much in the past year. Our board has grown significantly and now represents every state touching the Great Lakes and the two provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
The IRS recently granted the Council 501c3 status which will help us to pursue projects in our four pillars – image, innovation, workforce and borders/logistics. Together, these efforts will enhance the competitiveness of Great Lakes manufacturing and Great Lakes communities.

Our members include manufacturing firms, manufacturing associations, manufacturing extension partnerships, manufacturing services, chambers of commerce, economic development groups, technology councils, universities, community or two-year colleges, training programs, labor, government organizations and individuals interested in manufacturing.
If you are interested in Great Lakes Manufacturing, please join us at the table as together we shape our future.
We look forward to sharing more ideas and working with you as we take advantage of the new opportunities we have for manufacturing in the Great Lakes Region.
